Authorities in Northern Bahr El Gazal state on Wednesday visited Gogrial East County of neighboring Warrap State to pay their respect to the fallen amiable legislator and war liberator Gen. Salva Mathok Gengdit.
Tong Aken Ngor, the Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State who was accompanied by his entire cabinet, described the late lawmaker as one of the greatest war liberation heroes of South Sudan.
“As people of Northern Bahr El Gazal state, I would like to extend our condolences to the family of Gen. Mathok Gengdit. He is a hero, a liberation fighter who didn’t succumb to attempts of the previous enemies to bribe him. His allegiance to the SPLM movement is known and he had served a lot,” Tong said during the ceremony held at Apuk Giir Thiik village home of the late.
The governor emphasized the need to support Mathok’s young children and also called on the government to build a school in memory of him in his home village.
“I would like to appeal to the national government to see to it that the late is remembered by dedicating a school in his name,” Tong said.
Mathok passed on last week from illness in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.
The late served once as deputy minister of interior and also held high ranking positions within the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) that later on morphed into the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces.
