The recent relief food provided by the Unity State government to displaced people in Lalop payam, Bentiu internally displaced persons camp (IDP) and Rubkona County has drastically lowered prices of grain in these areas.
Gabriel Gatluak Luony, the chairperson of high committee in Bentiu IDP camp told Juba Echo on Tuesday that prices have dropped after residents last week received relief food from the state government.
A bag of 100 kilogram of sorghum has dropped from 80,000 South Sudanese Pounds to 15,000 SSP. 50 Kilogram of sorghum which was sold at 40,000 SSP is now going for 10,000 SSP.
“The food prices dropped down because of the recent food donation,” Luony said during interview in Bentiu town.
“We are living without hunger especially this month because the state government donated 150,000 sacks of sorghum to 120,000 shelters in the protection of civilian sites,” he added. The United Nations warned this year that more than 7 million South Sudanese will face severe hunger in the lean season due to prolonged flooding, conflicts
