Four people died after a boat they were traveling in capsized on Sunday night along the Nile River in Jonglei State.
John Samuel Manyuon, Jonglei State Information Minister revealed Juba Echo, that the boat carrying 50 passengers collided with another boat leaving 4 people dead and six others injured.
“Many people were rescued but 3 others are still missing. We also have 4 injured and they are now in the hospital in critical condition where they might be evacuated to Juba soon,” Manyuon said on Monday.
The accident occurred at Nyang located in the southern part of Jonglei State.
Manyoun said the police are searching for the missing bodies.
“The police are trying their best to search for them and if not found here, they will inform the authorities of Upper Nile to be on standby to recover the bodies,” Manyuon said.
He disclosed that the captains of the boats have been arrested.
“The 2 drivers are under police custody pending investigation. The incident happened when one boat coming from Duk and the other leaving from Bor collided,” he said.
Cases of boat accidents in Jonglei State have recently been on the rise with the latest case being reported in April this year.
