Sudan People’s Liberation Movement- in Opposition (SPLM-IO) under First Vice President Riek Machar has set up a state secretariat in Aweil of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
Angelina Aweng, SPLM-IO Chairperson for Northern Bahr el Ghazal, said the security agencies on many occasions have reportedly disrupted their meetings in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.
“Once we hold a meeting, we are always attacked by security. We used to sit outside and now with the establishment of this secretariat there will be no more attacks,” Aweng told The Juba Echo on Sunday from Aweil town.
Aweng is also the Deputy Speaker of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Parliament, said the establishment of the secretariat will end threats and intimidation from security agencies.
“Now the activities of the party will be carried out within the secretariat and the issues of the party will now be addressed within the secretariat,” she said.
Aweng said that this development will pave way for the registration of party members.“People will be paying visits to us in the office and anyone interested to join the SPLM-IO party can easily register,” she said.
