A 47-year-old man has beaten his wife to death, the police in Bentiu the capital of Unity State said.
Gatluak Chuol who has been arrested by the police reportedly beat his wife on Thursday after the wife challenged him to buy food in the house.
According to Col Banydeet Thokwath, the Joint Police Commander at Bentiu Internally Displaced People’s Camp, Chuol claimed his wife no longer respects him.
“We have arrested him and he is in police custody,” Thokwath told Juba Echo.
“The reason of their fight was about lack of respect and economic hardships, failing to provide adequate food to children,” he said.
Chuol admitted to the killing but claimed it was accidental.
“I have admitted the offense because I have killed my wife,” Chuol told Juba Echo.
I had no intention to kill her, I was trying to discipline her until when she was unconscious,” he said.
“know that its an offense against human rights, as I am in police detention now, my children are at home and no one will take care of them,” he added.
“I know that this is an offensee and I have to admit this is a bad did.”
