A group of people living with disability in Bentiu Internally Displaced People’s camp have received mobility aid equipment including wheel chairs, walking sticks and forearm crutches.
The equipment was donated by Handicap International, an international nongovernmental organisation operating in the country.
The donation reached 95 people out of 6,000 assessed last year.
“We have donated 95 mobility devices, and this include 20 wheelchairs, walking stick, forearm crutches,” Franco Gatkuoth Chuol, the Project Liaison Officer for Handicap International in Unity State told Juba Echo on Thursday.
“These mobility devices will help the disabled people in their movement,” Chuol said.
A 45-year-old woman living with disability, Mary Nyakuony Puok expressed gratitude over the assistance given to her.
I suffered a lot with my children because I have one leg and there were no crutches to support me when I go for firewood collection in the bushes,” Puok told Juba Echo.
“Today I have received my crutches and I will be able to go and collect fire for cooking food for my children.”
