A popular South Sudanese hip-hop artist, Emmanuel Jal was attacked on Christmas day at Mangateen residential area in Juba while on a philanthropic mission.
Jal is based in the US but upon coming to Juba recently, he opened a bakery, locally known as “furrun” where he produces bread and employees about eighteen people.
Jal said, out of his own volition, he decided to donate some bread to the needy people in the neighbourhood where the “furrun” is located and that was when the attacker approached and injured him.
Jal told Juba Echo on phone that he was approached by a man who asked him to explained why he was distributing bread to the people in the area.
“The man then attacked me and I sustained some injury” Said Jal.
He said he later came to learn that the attacker is a captain in South Sudan’s military.
Jal says he thanks the authorities for acting swiftly and arresting the officer who attached him.
