An accident on the main highway in South Sudan over the weekend left 12 travelers dead, all members of a single family.
The accident occurred on Saturday at Amee junction on the Juba-Nimule highway in Eastern Equatoria when a passenger service vehicle hired by a family from Juba was involved in a head on collision with a fuel tanker travelling to the capital, Police Spokesman Daniel Justin Buolo told Juba Echo by phone.
“What we found is that it was reckless driving which caused the accident,” Buolo said.
“The truck was even driving on the wrong side of the lane.”
Buolo said another 4 people were rushed to hospital in Nimule in critical condition.
“The driver of the truck is on the run but we have instituted a case and are looking for him,” Buolo said.
“He drives for a company and we know the company.”
Those who died in the accident included a father, wives and children.
