The first Vice President of the Republic His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar today met with the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) on a consultative meeting in regards to ways of addressing youth unemployment in the country.
The First Vice President in his remarks advised the UJOSS members to help address youth unemployment in the country through good reporting.
“UJOSS understands the reasons for the on going youth unemployment unrests against Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’S) across the country and the way forward”’ said the First Vice President.
The First Vice President stressed on the need to engage with the youth, civil society, United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and other NGO’s so as to permanently solve the youth unrest in the country.
“I have called you as UJOSS to understand reasons for the ongoing youth unemployment unrests against NGOs across the country, and the way forward,” First Vice President Dr. Machar said in a meeting with UJOSS on Thursday.
Dr. Machar added that he will be meeting other youth leaders including civil society, UNMISS and other non-governmental Organizations so as to permanently solve the youth unrest in the country.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting UJOSS President Patrick Oyet Charles said together with our leadership, we can do a lot to help our youths in the country.
“This is the first time that the leadership in South Sudan at the top level is consulting with the Union of Journalists of South Sudan in regards to how the media can play a role in the issue of youth unemployment in the country”, said Patrick.
Oyet also calls on South Sudan’s government to work with journalists to enhance dissemination of information and provision of civic education to the public.
The High Level Committee for youth unrest was formed by the Resolution of the Council of Ministers No.09/2021 held on Friday 2nd July 2021. The High Level Committee is tasked to make an in-depth study and provide a clear roadmap on how to permanently resolve the issue of youth unemployment in the Republic of South Sudan.
The High Level Committee is headed by the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar Teny, deputized by Vice President for Service Clusters Hussein Abdel Baggi Akol and Vice President for Gender and Youth Cluster Rebecca Nyandeng De- Mabior.
