The Office of the Vice President Mama Rebecca Nyandeng DeMabior has donated 130,000 facemasks to the 10 states to enable them fight COVID-19.
“The office of Mama Rebecca Nyandeng is producing local facemasks to support vulnerable people who couldn’t afford to buy facemasks in the market, the facemasks are made locally and given to people free of charge,” said the Director of Projects in the Vice President office, Ajak Kuol Deng in Juba on Friday.
Deng disclosed that each state will receive 13,000 facemasks.
He added that the facemasks will be transported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to the states.
Meanwhile, the Vice President’s office will also donate 68,000 face masks to the ministry of health.
“The ministry of health has received 10,000 facemasks out of 68,000 given to them and they will receive the rest next week to make the total of 68,000 facemasks, and the facemasks would be distributed to citizens living in Juba,” said Deng.
He revealed that they started producing face masks in 2020, after the country registered the first case of COVID-19.
“We have been distributing face masks to government institutions and the locals here in Juba, as well as in other states,” Deng revealed.
He urged people to adhere to health precautionary measures to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.
Deng further said that the office of the Vice President in collaboration with USAID, UNDP, and other partners will continue with the production of face masks at Dr. John Garang International School.
