Armed youth shoot police officers in Lakes State

At least five police officers have been reportedly wounded on Monday morning by armed youth in Rumbek East, Lakes State.
The law enforcement agents were shot while trying to prevent the youth from carrying out revenge attacks, according to a State Police spokesman.
“The police were trying to stop them from attacking another section of the community. They refused to go back. The police started firing bullets in the air to dispatch them but they immediately turned violent and started shooting at police,” Capt. Elijah Mabor Makuach confirmed the incident to Juba Echo this afternoon.
He alos disclosed that the armed youth have walked away with four guns.
“They fought with police leaving five policemen injured and they have taken with them four weapons including one AKM and three AK-47,” Makuach added.
The police said the injured officers are now receiving treatment at Rumbek State Hospital.
Capt. Makuach revealed that the security situation was still tense in the areas.
“The situation is still deteriorating but the Commissioner of Rumbek East County, Mapuot Manuer Kok and the police forces are still at the crime scene,”  he disclosed.
