South Sudan’s government to launch COVID-19 vaccination campaign for teachers

South Sudan’s government said early this week that it plans to commence inoculation of teachers across the country as schools reopen after more than a year of closure.

“Teachers in Juba will have five vaccination centers where they can go and get the COVID-19 jabs, their vaccination is one of our priorities.” Said South Sudan’s vice president for service cluster, Hussein Abdelbagi Akol during the launch of the reopening of schools on Monday this week.

“Next week, the vaccination campaign will be taken across the country.” Added Hussein

South Sudan officially reopened school on Monday this week however, in the capital Juba, many schools are still only registering students.

Our team moved to several schools in Juba, at Juba One Girls School, the gate was opened but there was no activity at the time of the team’s visit.

Next to Juba One Boys School, teachers were registering learners with the aim of commencing classes on Monday next week

At CMS Primary School, registration was also going on, the teachers say classes are scheduled to begin on Monday next week as well.

South Sudan’s Health Ministry says about four thousand (4,000) people have so far taken the COVID-19 jabs in the capital adding that it plans to take the vaccines to the country’s ten states and the three administrative areas.
