27 suspects have been apprehended for allegedly inciting the June violence in Tonj North that left dozens of South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) soldiers killed in Rualbet Payam.
This was revealed Tuesday by Gen. Majak Akec Malok, the Inspector General of police in Juba.
Malok on 1st July together with high- ranking security officials visited the scene of the clashes and returned to brief President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Tuesday.
“We have managed to arrest 27 people that participated in that incident in Rualbet Payam and they will be subjected to the law,we are here to inform the citizens that the committee came back to Juba and briefed the president and we left our forces to hunt down the criminals,” Malok told journalists in Juba after meeting the President.
The clashes between armed cattle rustlers and soldiers left 28 people killed.
Among the dead included, armed civilians, SSPDF Chief of Military Intelligence, Majors and Captains, 3 commanders and the former Commissioner of Mayen Jur County.
Malok assured that the security committee informed President Kiir that the security situation in Rualbet Payam has returned to normalcy.
He said that the committee managed to collect over 531 small fire arms from the civilians and 124 stolen cattle were recovered and returned to their rightful owners through the efforts of local chiefs.
Malok revealed that they have left forces on the ground to hunt down more criminals such that total peace returns to the area.
“The security forces have been deployed to crack down on more criminals still on the run,” Malok said.
He noted that previously there was a total breakdown of law and order in the area.
“The fighting happened and casualities were there, we briefed the president on the issues that happened in that incident, the committee went there and disarmed the citizens,” Malok disclosed.
The High- Level Security Committee headed by the Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Santino Deng Wol, included the Inspector General of Police Gen Majak Akec Malok and Director General of Internal Security Bureau Gen. Akol Koor Kuc.
